National Joint Council for the Engineering Construction Industry
The National Joint Council for the Engineering Construction Industry (NJC) is a trade union / employer partnership established to foster and encourage strong and cohesive working relationships, while promoting improvements in working practice and culture within contractors and trade unions.
The NJC is able to prevent, or swiftly resolve, workplace problems on behalf of clients, as well as assisting with change processes undertaken by clients to improve their practices and standards.
The NJC membership includes:
Employer’s associations:
- Engineering Construction Industry Association (ECIA).
- Electrical Contractors’ Association of Scotland (ELECT).
- Thermal Insulation Contractors’ Association (TICA).
- GMB.
- Unite the Union.
The unions form the National Engineering Construction Committee (NECC), which provides a single trade union voice.
The NJC reviews and administers the National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry (NAECI), also known as the ‘Blue Book’. This agreement sets comprehensive terms and conditions for hourly-paid construction workers. Most major projects are designated ‘Category 1’ under the NAECI. Repair and maintenance projects are designated ‘Category 2’.
For more information, see NJC.
